The University of Miami School of Law provides a unique look into navigating consumer bankruptcies in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida at the 33rd Bankruptcy Skills Workshop, which will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023, virtually or at the law school on the Coral Gables campus.
This year's full-day program is ideal for both seasoned practitioners and those new to the field and includes panels from the perspective of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy; managing cryptocurrency in insolvency proceedings; NextGen CM/ECF; the view from the bankruptcy judges' standpoint; practice and procedures by the clerk of the court; case analysis; and ethical dilemmas.
"The workshop is an outstanding opportunity for practitioners, paralegals and judicial assistants to become familiar with bankruptcy court operations and procedures," said A. Jay Cristol, Chief Judge Emeritus United States Bankruptcy Court Southern District of Florida Miami Division.
Discussions and presentations by U.S. bankruptcy judges, clerks of court, U.S. Chapter 7 & 13 trustees, ethics panels, staff counsels for The Florida Bar, and seasoned debtor and creditor counsel will be presented between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. in Room F352 at 1311 Miller Drive.
Parking is available at the Pavia Garage, accessible through the main gate of UM at Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Stanford Drive.
Registration fees support the Louis Phillips Scholarship Fund at the UM School of Law. Course materials, lunch, and parking are included in the registration cost. Registration for in-person is $325; discounts apply for UM alumni and government employees and have a virtual option.
