Each year, the Clinical Legal Education Association, which exists to advocate for clinical legal education as fundamental to the education of lawyers, awards this honor to an outstanding student.

While an extern with Miami Homes for All, Tabor worked on legislation and policy, drafting a detailed analysis of a recent major Florida bill shared with housing advocates across Florida. She also attended County Commission meetings, Miami Housing Alliance Steering Committee, and Pipeline Policy meetings and worked on a federal case dealing with homeless encampment cleanup policies nationwide.

"I am proud to say that I contributed so much to a nonprofit organization dedicated to seeing every Miamian obtain safe, stable, and affordable housing, through complex systemic change," said Tabor. "The ability to blend my education with my passion for social justice has been the goal of my law school career, and I'm so grateful for the Externship Program for giving me the opportunity to use my law degree to support those who need it most."

"Caitlin is a meticulous researcher and an active participant in agency meetings who delivered several original presentations to various groups and devised systems that facilitated systematic comparisons of different jurisdictions' policies." said Jessi Tamayo, externship director at Miami Law.

The University of Miami Externship program allows law students to receive academic credit for work experience at approved legal services providers. Students are eligible to participate in the externship program starting the summer after their first year and can complete up to three externships during their law school career.
