LL.M. student Inigo Benedict Kwan-Parsons

New Zealander Inigo Benedict Kwan-Parsons is the 2023-2024 recipient of the White & Case/Carolyn B. Lamm Scholarship, allowing him to pursue an LL.M. degree in International Arbitration at Miami Law.

The White & Case/Carolyn B. Lamm Scholarship was established in 2014 by the law firm in honor of White & Case partner Carolyn B. Lamm, an alumna and Distinguished Faculty Chair of the International Arbitration LL.M.

“I was very excited,” said Kwan-Parsons on receiving the scholarship. “Education is a privilege, and so when the opportunity arose to continue learning from an American perspective, I jumped at it.”

Kwan-Parsons received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Auckland and his Master of Laws in Public International Law and International Arbitration from the University of Melbourne in Australia. He is a senior associate at an international law firm in Perth, Australia where he specializes in complex disputes, attending court and arbitral hearings. He also serves as assistant editor for the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, where he reviews and summarizes significant international arbitration decisions and judgments published monthly in the ITA Arbitration Report.

So far, Kwan-Parsons has found the International Arbitration program to provide “ample opportunities for students to gain practical experience, and learn fundamental skills to be used in practice, particularly advocacy skills. The program also has an extremely diverse group of students and professors from multiple countries, who can provide unique perspectives that truly highlight the international nature of international arbitration.”

The White & Case International Arbitration LL.M. Program provides a unique individualized educational opportunity for a small group of top-quality students from various countries wishing to acquire an in-depth grounding in international arbitration as a platform for a successful career. The program – the only one of its kind in the United States – is open to U.S. and foreign-trained graduates and ideal for newcomers or experienced practitioners looking to enrich their skills and knowledge.

New to Miami, Kwan-Parsons is enjoying all the city offers.

“Miami is a fantastic city - it has great food places, great weather, and is short flight to other amazing places in Central America and the Caribbean,” he said.

After Kwan-Parsons finishes his LL.M. degree, he hopes to practice law in the United States.

“My ultimate career goal is to continue to develop my skills in, and knowledge of, arbitration,” he said.
