Third-year law student Annmarie Machado began working as an intern for LawWithoutWalls in the summer of her 1L year. She enrolled in LWOW's Sprint 2023 program during her 2L spring. In March, Machado traveled with LWOW to St. Gallen, Switzerland, where she had the opportunity to work with lawyers, business professionals, and law students from all over the world to create a viable solution to a real problem related to the business of law in a three-day intensive "Sprint."
Machado was born and raised in Miami. In 2021, she earned a bachelor's degree in government at Georgetown University. At Miami Law, she has been passionate about intersecting her passions for law, entrepreneurship, and innovation by participating in LawWithoutWalls under the guidance of Professor Michele DeStefano.
"LWOW has not only completely changed the trajectory of my law career, but also my perception of myself," Machado said. "I realized the strengths I bring to the table and how I can leverage them when working with a team to solve a pressing legal issue. The days spent at the Sprint in Switzerland were some of the most exhausting but rewarding days of my 2L year. I cannot recommend this program enough for anyone who is looking to up-skill the way they think and solve problems."
LWOW unites law and business professionals with students from 30 law and business schools worldwide to co-create innovative solutions to problems at the intersection of law+business+technology while developing the skills essential to all professionals today.
"Ani exhibits sharp, astute instincts in quickly grasping challenges at hand," said DeStefano. "As an entrepreneur and creator, herself, she especially understands the ROI (return on investment] in providing client-centric and best-in-class service—which was also the topic of her LWOW Sprint team's challenge. At Sprint, she was a strong team collaborator and substantive contributor to the formation of Apex: a solution that provides a pathway for in-house legal teams to further add value to internal stakeholders."
