Originally from Boston, Kamal Sleiman moved to Miami at eighteen for his undergraduate degree and has lived here ever since. He fell in love with the beautiful campus, the growing city, and his wife (Olivia Kelman, JD ’13)—who he met while serving as an editor for the University of Miami Law Review. A double ‘Cane, Sleiman has been a partner at McDermott Will & Emery since 2019 and focuses his practice on handling complex business disputes for private equity firms and healthcare entities.
In addition to serving on the law review, Sleiman participated in the Professional Responsibility and Ethics Program, and served as a Dean’s Fellow for Constitutional Law and Civil Procedure. He also worked as a summer associate at DLA Piper, a position he obtained through the school’s Office of Career and Professional Development. He currently serves as the Hiring Partner for McDermott’s Miami Office.
Sleiman has been involved with the Young Alumni Committee (YAC) for almost ten years. He has spearheaded several YAC events to help fund scholarships for law students. He urges recent law school graduates to join YAC and get involved, emphasizing that it is a great way to maintain ties, network, and give back to the university.
In his free time, Sleiman likes to travel, attend concerts, and spend time with his wife and two-year-old daughter, Amira. He also remains an avid Miami sports fan, holding season tickets for football games and attending as many events as he can.
