The University of Miami Law Review Symposium, titled "Reflections on the War on Drugs," will feature keynote speakers, panel discussions, and a fireside chat, aiming to provide insights into the War on Drugs and legal issues related to drug addiction.

This year's symposium will take a critical look at how the criminal legal system interacts with addiction, efforts to hold pharmaceutical companies accountable for the harm caused, and legal issues related to the legalization of drugs.

"This symposium serves as a crucial forum for insightful discourse on the legal intricacies surrounding the War on Drugs," said University of Miami Law Review Editor-in-Chief Grace Slicklen. "We hope you will join us and walk away with an understanding of these pressing issues impacting our community."

The event will begin with an opening keynote address by Kassandra Frederique, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance. The closing keynote address will be delivered by Laura E. Mate, vice chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission.

The panels will focus on different aspects of drug addiction, with panel one titled "What is Addiction?" Panel two, "Civil Litigation," will follow. Panel three will focus on the "The Criminalization of Addiction and Alternatives to Incarceration." The fireside chat will explore "Possibilities for Legalization."

The symposium is set to take place from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Shalala Student Center Grand Ballroom, located at 1330 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, FL 33146.

CLE credits, with a $125 registration fee, are pending approval.

LAFAC and Miami Law will sponsor the symposium, and a reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public. Interested participants can register now to attend this thought-provoking event that promises to provide insights into the War on Drugs and legal issues related to drug addiction.
