Kelly Malloy is a Miami native, coming from a family of intellectual property lawyers and IP professors who inspired her to pursue a career in the same field. She chose Miami Law because as a Miamian, UM felt like home. She also liked the flexibility and independence Miami Law offered in course selection which would give her an opportunity to focus on her passion, intellectual property.

Malloy was extremely involved while at UM, serving as a member of the Student Bar Association all three years, including as Secretary her 2L year and President her 3L year. She loved planning and hosting events to help students develop socially, professionally, and academically, including a record-breaking Barrister’s Ball after a hiatus during the global pandemic. She was also an editor on the University of Miami Law Review, president of the IP Law Society, president of the Inter-Club Council, and a member of Iron Arrow.

Malloy loved her time at UM, finding it to be an extremely uplifting community and a rewarding experience. During her 3L year, she took the Patent Bar, and is now a full-time associate and registered patent attorney at Malloy & Malloy. She focuses on patent, trademark, copyright, franchise, and related litigation and international IP portfolio management.

Malloy is now the Vice Chair of Activities for the Young Alumni Committee. She has helped plan and host events through the Law Alumni Association including the LAA Reception at the Florida Bar Convention, the LAA Holiday Party, and the YAC Annual Fundraiser. She also remains involved in Iron Arrow. In her free time, Malloy loves to be outdoors, spend time on the water, and travel and explore new places. Currently, most of her free time is devoted to planning her wedding to fellow Miami Law alum, Daniel DeWitt.

Malloy encourages others to get involved with the Law Alumni Association and is available for anyone to reach out with questions or to talk with her at kmalloy@malloylaw.com.
