Counseling Creators: Influencers, Artists, and Trendsetters Negotiation Competition and Conference

Content is king. We live in the golden age where content creators, artists, and influencers wield power and can shift culture. Brands want to collaborate. Creators must be sophisticated, understand deal points, and protect their brand and intellectual property.

Miami Law is hosting the Counseling Creators: Influencers, Artists, and Trendsetters Negotiation Competition and Conference February 29 and March 1 on the Coral Gables campus.

"We are extremely excited to announce the first-of-its-kind event, which showcases our continued efforts in expanding the arts and creative track as part of our Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Program," said Greg Levy, associate dean and director of EASL. "The event features a rich lineup of industry leaders, including executives, creators, brands, and lawyers representing some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Wasserman, Creative Artist Agency, the American art collective based in Brooklyn, New York MSCHF, New Balance, Roc Nation, Reed Smith, Holland + Knight, Jayaram Law, and many more. With the event being a great opportunity to learn and gain insights into this thriving industry, we look forward to it being a fantastic experience for everyone involved."

The February 29 all-day competition is ideal for law and business students. Participants will represent influencers, brands, artists, fashion companies, and other creators in the first-ever negotiation competition.

Teams of up to four law and business students will be assigned two negotiations representing an influencer, brand, artist, or fashion company negotiating the compensation, deliverables, and critical deal points. Industry judges will grade the negotiation and provide feedback, and the top teams will advance to the final negotiation, which will be held live during the conference.

The March 1 conference appeals to all lawyers, law students, brands, influencers, artists, and creators and will feature panel conversations and keynotes on topics, including The Business of Content Creation, Fair Use for Creators, Athletes as Content Creators, The Brand Deal, Compliance, Regulatory Considerations and Promoter Liability for Creators, and The Fashion Collaboration. It is an opportunity to network and learn from industry-leading creators, brands, and lawyers.

The cost to register for the February 29 competition at the Shalala Student Center is $100 per individual and $300 for an up to four-person team. Registration for the competition closes February 15, 2024.

The conference will be held at Lakeside Village and is open to the public with registration. General admission is $75.00 and $25.00 for non-UM students. The event is free to UM students, faculty, and staff with registration. Registration for the conference closes February 29, 2024, or when the event reaches capacity.

"In addition to the student competition and conference, we are thrilled to partner with Nucleus Hub as our official Content Partner," said Levy. "Nucleus will be bringing their content hub to the event which will provide a unique opportunity for attendees, creators, and speakers to collaborate and create content live at the event and days later have edited stills, reels and longer form content. Register today for more information."
