The School of Law opened its doors to a diverse group of 305 J.D. students, representing 29 states, 108 undergraduate institutions, and 21 countries, signaling the school's expanding appeal. Among the more than 4,200 applicants, Miami Law ultimately introduced 436 new students across its J.D., LL.M., and S.J.D. programs in August. Additionally, the school proudly launched its inaugural Master of Legal Studies program class with 20 pioneering students.

J.D. Class – Exceptional and Diverse

Miami Law welcomed an impressive cohort of students, embodying an array of backgrounds. More than half of the incoming 1L class identify as students of color, 80% of the incoming class are the first in their family to pursue a law degree, and 14% are first-generation college students. This year's J.D. class is the most academically accomplished in Miami Law's history, with a median LSAT score of 163 and a median undergraduate G.P.A. of 3.76.

Even though these numbers are impressive, the admissions committee was impressed with many in this class based on their variety of academic and life experiences. Remarkably, nearly half of the entering class has been out of college for at least one year, during which most worked or earned a postgraduate degree – or both. In addition, the incoming 1Ls students studied more than 60 majors during their undergraduate educations.

“We are excited to welcome students from around the world, each with impressive backgrounds that truly reflect what makes Miami Law unique,” said Katrin Hussmann Schroll, associate dean of admissions, enrollment management & financial aid. “It is a privilege to be part of their journey as they pursue their dream of attending our law school.”

LL.M. and S.J.D. Students from Across the Globe

The School of Law also welcomed a notable LL.M. class in international law, international arbitration, maritime law, tax law, real property development, entertainment, arts, and sports law, and estate planning.

This diverse class is comprised of 90 LL.M. students and 1 S.J.D. student hailing from 26 countries and territories, including Brazil, Germany, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Nicaragua, South Korea, Bhutan, Canada, Costa Rica, South Africa, Cuba, Italy, Ecuador, Mexico, Egypt, Paraguay, France, Saudi Arabia, Bolivia, Chile, Venezuela, Vietnam, Haiti, India, and the United States. Their varied backgrounds add expertise, experience, and diversity to Miami Law.

Orientation for the LL.M. and S.J.D. students at Miami Law spanned a full week, aimed at seamlessly integrating them into the Law School's community, both academically and socially. The program featured presentations from faculty, staff, alumni, and fellow students, alongside classroom activities, workshops, and the meaningful HOPE Day of Service.

These students, already qualified attorneys in their respective countries, enrich the program with their extensive experience across the private sector, government, corporate world, judiciary, and public interest law. Many members of this year's class are proficient in at least two languages, with a significant number being multilingual, further enhancing the program's cultural diversity and global perspective.
