Professor Charlton Copeland has agreed to serve as associate dean of pedagogical innovation, a new position recently created by Interim Dean Patricia Abril
Innovating in teaching, pedagogy, and curriculum requires strong faculty participation and support. It also requires communication and coordination among the various stakeholders across the Law School community, including faculty, student-facing support teams, and students.
“Charlton is well positioned to support the faculty's pedagogical ambitions while championing student academic success and growth,” said Abril.
Copeland will work with the Faculty Curriculum Committee, leaders of Law School's Academic and Bar Support team, Miami Law’s Law and Technology Fellow, and the Director of the Law Library, among others, to promote pedagogical innovation. One of his first tasks will be working closely with each 1L Section to facilitate communication and coordination across faculty to maximize the students’ academic journeys.
A well-respected professor at Miami Law, Copeland was named the 2021 recipient of the Clyde Ferguson Award, the highest award bestowed by The Association of American Law Schools Section on Minority Groups. The award is given to an outstanding law teacher, who during his or her career, has achieved excellence in the areas of public service, teaching, and scholarship.
Additionally, he is a 2015 recipient of the Richard Hausler Golden Apple Award for the faculty member contributing the most to the student body both academically and through his or her extracurricular activities.
Previously, Copeland served as associate dean of intellectual life at Miami Law.
