Lauren Rasco always wanted to go to law school. As a child in Miami, she'd hear her father and family talk about depositions and hearings. She put her knowledge to the test in high school and joined the school's mock trial team.
Falling in love with cross-examination and closing statements made her realize she was destined to follow her family into a legal career.
She studied economics and advertising at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as an undergraduate. There, she made life-long friends and joined a community-service sorority.
Living out of state was her biggest obstacle. However, the bliss of visiting cafes along Franklin Street near the UNC campus helped lower her anxieties.
She got a part-time job at a law firm in her junior and senior years.
"I loved working there," Rasco said. "Although I already knew I wanted to go to law school at this time, my experience at the law firm further solidified my interest."
Rasco then searched for a law school close to home. Miami Law's faculty and networking opportunities made it her number-one choice.
"Having the community that Miami Law fosters will be beneficial as I begin my career here," Rasco said.
Now, as a second-year student, she takes advantage of every opportunity Miami Law offers. Rasco is a member of The Yvette Ostolaza Mock Trial Team and the Business Law Review, where she serves as a junior staff editor. She is also an intern for the Immigration Clinic this year, using her research, writing, and interviewing skills to help with cases. Additionally, she worked as a legal intern at Podhurst Orseck during her 1L summer.
Powered by a family of practitioners, Rasco aims to make her mark using all of Miami Law's available resources.
"Miami Law has something for everyone, and I think that's one reason why I love it here," Rasco said.
