The University of Miami School of Law's Mindfulness in Law Program and the University of Miami's Mindfulness Research and Practice Initiative, also known as UMindfulness, have announced a special event featuring the American journalist Dan Harris. The Nov. 4 event, "Mindfully Navigating Uncertainty During Times of Great Consequence: Election 2024," will take place on the Coral Gables campus.

Harris turned a personal crisis into a profound journey of discovery through mindfulness and meditation. After experiencing a panic attack on live television, Harris explored mindfulness to regain control over his life, leading to the publication of his No. 1 New York Times bestseller, "10% Happier." His podcast, which is the same name, brings together influential figures to discuss the benefits of mindfulness in various aspects of life.

"Through his wisdom, authenticity, and humor, Dan has become a leading voice in mindfulness and meditation," said Interim Dean Patricia S. Abril. "It is a great honor for the law school and UMindfulness to bring his happiness, calm, and focus to our community during election week."

Since its establishment in 2010, the Miami Law Mindfulness in Law Program has been at the forefront of integrating mindfulness practices into legal education under Scott Rogers, an internationally recognized leader in the field. The program offers students a comprehensive approach to mindfulness, including courses like mindfulness in law and mindful ethics, to enhance students' well-being and academic performance.

UMindfulness collaborates across disciplines to bring cutting-edge brain research together with mindfulness practice, offering training in a nonsectarian, accessible, and innovative manner to optimize performance, enhance wellness, and promote resilience.

The Monday, Nov. 4, event will occur at 7 p.m. at the Lakeside Village Expo Center at the University of Miami, 1280 Stanford Drive, Coral Gables, Florida. The event is free and open to the community with registration.
