Samara Spiler knew she wanted to help change the world. As an international relations major at the University of Texas, she worked to impact the forefront of global policy.

Writing a thesis on the power of microloans to women in developing countries expanded her worldview. Completing her minor in international business helped her realize the world is too big to spend life sitting behind a desk.

After graduating, she worked at Google, then decided to enter law school, looking to test herself.

"I wanted to challenge myself analytically both in school and in my career, so I decided law school was the best path for me," Spiler said.

Miami Law's location in one of America's most bustling cities also drew her in.

"I thought UM offered the most hands-on resources that would allow me to really control my own law school experience and dive into what mattered to me," she said.

Spiler has taken advantage of the many opportunities at Miami Law. She is the University of Miami Law Review's articles and comments editor, dean's fellow, and research assistant. She is working on a law review student note about policy suggestions for the New York City housing crises. She is also a member of the Cardozo Jewish Law Society and the Investor Rights Clinic.

She enjoyed attending the LawWithoutWalls Sprint in Madrid, Spain, which was a “highlight of my time at law school.” The sprint is a three-day legal hackathon where students learn and apply design thinking principles to co-create viable solutions for an urgent business-of-law challenge.

During her 3L summer, she worked as a summer associate at Kirkland & Ellis in New York City. After graduating in May, she will take the New York Bar Exam to prepare her to join the firm as a real estate associate.

"Being involved in these ways has allowed me to connect with the students and professors at UM Law and fully take advantage of the breadth of talent we have at the law school," Spiler said.
