Influencers and creatives gear up for annual negotiation competition and conference

The University of Miami School of Law will host its second annual "Counseling Creators: Influencers, Artists and Trendsetters Negotiation Competition and Conference," aimed at empowering a new generation of content creators and legal professionals. The event will occur at the Shalala Student Center on the first day of the negotiation competition and at the Lakeside Village Auditorium on the second day of the conference, February 13 and 14, 2025.

"The competition is ideal for law and business students," said associate dean Greg Levy, director of the Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law Graduate Program, "while the conference appeals to all lawyers, law students, brands, influencers, artists and creators. The Counseling Creators event is designed for anyone interested in the intricate dynamics of content creation, negotiation, and legal considerations. With the creative and legal landscapes evolving, attendees will leave equipped with vital tools to navigate these complexities.

"Content creation is at an all-time high, and influencers, artists, and creatives possess the potential to reshape cultural narratives. As brands increasingly seek collaboration with these creators, understanding negotiation intricacies has never been more crucial," he said.

The negotiation competition on February 13 will offer law and business students a unique opportunity to represent influencers, fashion companies, artists, and brands in high-stakes negotiations. Participants can register as teams of up to four or as individuals who will be assigned to a team. They will negotiate critical deal points such as compensation and deliverables, enhancing their practical skills while receiving constructive feedback from industry judges. The top teams from this competition will advance to a final negotiation live during the conference on February 14.

Participants and attendees can look forward to engaging panels and keynotes during the conference, such as The Business of Content Creation, Fair Use for Content Creators, Clearances for Creators, The Brand Deal, Compliance and Regulatory Considerations for Creators, and Promoter Liability. It will also provide an opportunity to network and learn from industry-leading creators, brands, and lawyers.

Registering a team for the competition is $400 per team or $125 per individual and will be held at Shalala Student Center, 1330 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, FL 33146. The cost to register for the conference at the Lakeside Village Auditorium, 1280 Stanford Dr, Coral Gables, FL 33146, is $100 for general admission, $25 for non-UM students, and free to UM students.
