Miami Law alumnus Michael Levine grew up in Cooper City and was drawn to civics and public policy courses throughout high school and college. He solidified his desire to attend law school through an internship with a criminal defense lawyer. As a South Floridian, Levine decided Miami was where he wanted to build a career. He applied to Miami Law and was awarded a Dean’s Merit Scholarship.
One of Levine’s favorite things about Miami Law is the involvement of adjunct professors. He enjoyed taking courses from experienced attorneys and judges, including Judge Adalberto Jordan, Paul Huck Jr., and Bob Burlington. He participated in the Litigation Skills Program, the University of Miami Law Review, Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board, and the Tenants’ Rights Clinic. He says that his experience with the Moot Court made him comfortable thinking on his feet and making legal arguments. At the same time, UMLR improved his research and writing abilities, and the Tenants’ Rights Clinic gave him his first experience of truly “feeling like an advocate.”
After graduation, Levine joined Bilzin Sumberg’s litigation department. He then clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Paul Huck. During his clerkship, Judge Huck became his mentor and played a significant role in his career path. While clerking, Levine met David Bianchi, his now partner, who offered him a position at Stewart Tilghman Fox Bianchi & Cain. He’s been with the firm for 10 years and became a partner in 2019. His practice focuses on representing plaintiffs in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases.
To stay connected, Levine attends events hosted by the Law Alumni Association and remains friends with many Miami Law graduates. This semester, he and fellow alum Marianne Curtis, JD ‘11, lectured on depositions to students in the Litigation Skills Program. He loves spending time with his wife and two sons, ages 2 and 5, in his free time. His “second” job is assistant coach of the Miami Beach Cubs t-ball team.
His advice to students is to “make the most of the opportunities that the law school offers. The law school has something for everyone; seek out those opportunities and build good friendships with your classmates.”
