This year's 2025 Global Entertainment & Sports Law + Industry Conference will tackle industry leaders' latest insights, including the future of college athletics, music, and the artist, and the rising trend of investing in sports as private equity arrives in the NFL.
Marc Platt, the stage and film producer of "Wicked," will deliver a keynote address, "Defying Gravity." Platt is a former executive at Universal Pictures and has a producing career that spans film, theater, and television. Platt's projects have collectively earned over $8 billion worldwide and received numerous prestigious award nominations.
Also of note will be a conversation with Damien Atkins, the chief legal officer and general counsel behind the MrBeast phenomenon. Beast Industries is a multifaceted media, entertainment, and consumer products and services company founded by Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as MrBeast—the most-watched content creator in the world. Renowned for transforming digital content creation, Beast Industries boasts a diverse portfolio of ventures that extend far beyond its YouTube origins. Atkins is responsible for legal, compliance, government affairs, and corporate security.
The University of Miami School of Law's Entertainment and Sports Law Society and LL.M. in Entertainment, Arts, and Sports Law host the annual event. The society delivered its first conference in 1997. Since then, it has grown into a full-scale event where law students and professionals participate in a forum to discuss current legal issues in sports, entertainment, intellectual property, the arts, and the media.
Some of the most well-known local and national attorneys, faculty, agents, legal advisers, athletes, and entertainers serve as panelists, lead Q&A sessions, and foster academic debate.
The Florida Bar CLE credits are pending approval, with 13.5 general credit hours (2.5 ethics and 1.0 technology) and a 13.5 business litigation certification.
The Thursday, April 3, and Friday, April 4, 2025 event will be held at the Shalala Student Center, 1330 Miller Drive on the Coral Gables campus, from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and is open to the public with advanced registration. General admission for the two-day conference is $500, $450 for Miami Law alumni, $75 for non-UM students, and free for UM students, faculty, and staff.
