Currently, the Justice Department and 40 state and district attorneys general have joined the Swifties in the civil antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation and its subsidiary Ticketmaster, claiming the company is monopolizing markets across the live concert industry. Newman is an expert on antitrust and competition law, with a primary focus on the economics and regulation of digital markets. He has served as deputy director of the Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Competition and as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division. Newman sits on the advisory boards for the American Antitrust Institute and the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies, is an associate editor of the Antitrust Law Journal, and was a fellow with the Thurman Arnold Project at Yale.
