At the University of Miami School of Law, students are empowered to pursue their legal passions while gaining practical skills that translate into career success. Recently ranked 6th by PreLaw Magazine in Spring 2025 for course variety among 197 ABA-accredited law schools, Miami Law offers an extensive array of classes that cater to students with specific interests and those open to exploring different legal fields.
With 18 areas of study, Miami Law offers students a choice of academic specialties with courses taught by faculty who are leaders in their fields. Many specialty areas reach students through academic programs in environmental law, global and international law, transactional law, human rights law, and litigation skills.
Practical Skills: 65+ Experiential Courses
The Law School has a breadth of courses founded on experiential learning. With nine specialized clinics, students can access unparalleled opportunities to engage with and represent real clients, work on actual cases, and influence public policy under the guidance of seasoned attorneys and professors.
Additionally, externship courses enable students to earn academic credits while gaining practical experience in a real-world setting, such as corporations, government agencies, public interest organizations, and the judiciary in any practice area they choose.
In the magazine, Katrin Schroll, dean of enrollment management at Miami Law, says that feedback from employers indicates they not only want graduates who know how to think but also have skills when they come to practice.
“We have practitioners coming back to law school to teach students in courses that are popular and require additional levels of training. It would take a lot more time in the employment sector to learn all of that, and it’s much better for students to get that education before they graduate. They become a more coveted employee.”
3 Moot Court Programs
Unlike many law schools that offer a single moot court option, Miami Law features three distinct moot court programs. Through these opportunities, students replicate the litigation process by acting as counselors and advocating for different sides of a case based on scenarios crafted by professionals. Participants can choose from the International Moot Court Program, the Trial Team, or the Papy Moot Court Board.
Selection of 20+ Joint Degrees
Miami Law also stands out with its rich selection of 20+ joint degrees in collaboration with the University of Miami. As part of a research-intensive institution, Miami Law partners with top graduate programs, providing avenues in business, marine ecosystems, international arbitration, and more, enriching students' educational experiences.
Additional Opportunities
In addition to offering 100+ courses and seminars in international, comparative, and foreign law, Miami Law offers students more than 25+ study-abroad opportunities in 13 countries. This global exposure enables students to acquire interdisciplinary knowledge, merging fields typically taught in isolation, such as finance, environmental law, intellectual property, and human rights.
Beyond the classroom, students can delve into their legal interests by participating in five student journals and a robust offering of 55+ student organizations, fostering a vibrant campus community.
