Class of 2028

The School of Law welcomed a group of 316 J.D. students from a wide range of backgrounds, representing 29 states, 104 undergraduate institutions, and 28 countries. This follows an application cycle that drew over 4,600 applicants—the largest pool of prospective students in nearly a century. Miami Law ultimately introduced 482 new students across its J.D.LL.M.,  S.J.D., and Master of Legal Studies programs this August.

Exceptional J.D. Class

This year's incoming class is the most academically accomplished in Miami Law's history. This impressive cohort of students boasts a median LSAT score of 164 and a median undergraduate GPA of 3.79.

The new class embodies a wide array of backgrounds. A remarkable 74% are the first in their families to pursue a law degree, and 14% are also the first in their families to attend college.

What the numbers do not show is the impressive variety of academic and life experiences that the admissions committee found so compelling. More than half of the entering class has been out of college for at least a year, with most having gained valuable work or postgraduate experience. In addition, the new class of 1Ls studied 67 different majors as undergraduates.

At this year’s plenary for incoming students, interim dean Patricia Sanchez Abril recognized the achievements of the incoming classes at the School of Law.  “I have the honor of welcoming you to the University of Miami School of Law,” she said.  “You did it. Every single one of you belongs here, and you got into this school in the hardest year out of the past 100. Congratulations.”

LL.M. and S.J.D. Students from Across the Globe

The School of Law also welcomed a notable LL.M. and S.J.D. class in international law, international arbitration, maritime law, tax law, real property development, entertainment, arts, and sports law, and estate planning. These students are from 29 countries across five continents and bring their rich backgrounds and expertise to the School of Law campus.

Orientation for the LL.M. and S.J.D. students at Miami Law spanned a full week, aimed at seamlessly integrating them into the Law School's community, both academically and socially. The program featured presentations from faculty, staff, alumni, and fellow students, alongside classroom activities, workshops, and social events.

M.L.S. Program Grows in Popularity

The Master of Legal Studies program is celebrating its anniversary with an impressive increase in enrollment, jumping from 20 pioneering students in its inaugural class to 84 today. This online program is designed for non-lawyers and offers six specialized tracks: general legal studies, health care, technology, human resources, real estate, and finance.

"We are proud to attract law students from wide-ranging backgrounds, each with impressive accomplishments that demonstrate the breadth of talent drawn to Miami Law," said Katrin Hussmann Schroll, associate dean, enrollment management, integrated marketing, and data analytics. "It is both inspiring and exciting to be part of their journey as they develop into the next generation of leaders who will shape our legal profession."
