Miami Law and AI Lab shortlisted in prestigious international competition

The University of Miami School of Law is committed to technology law and launched the Miami Law and AI (MiLA) Lab in 2024. The lab’s innovative work has been recognized as a finalist for the prestigious 2025 AIREA International Competition on Artificial Intelligence in Education, earning international recognition for its groundbreaking educational technology tool, ClassInsight.

ClassInsight is among select global innovations chosen by the Artificial Intelligence Research and Education Alliance, an organization committed to fostering AI research and education worldwide. This recognition highlights ClassInsight's potential contribution to improving legal education and, more broadly, higher education through innovative AI applications.

ClassInsight is an AI platform that revolutionizes classroom dynamics by providing real-time analysis of student engagement and comprehension. ClassInsight offers a dual-pronged approach to enhancing the learning experience: instructors receive collective visualizations of the entire class's understanding as material is taught, enabling them to identify confusion points and adapt their methods immediately. Simultaneously, each student receives personalized feedback on their individual performance and concept grasp, empowering them to recognize and address misunderstandings instantly.

This innovative tool is the result of collaborative efforts from an interdisciplinary team led by MiLA Lab director and law and technology fellow Or Cohen-Sasson. The development team includes Talia Berler, a computer science graduate student and Roni Kennedy, who contributed to the project during her undergraduate studies and is now an incoming first-year student at the School of Law. Their diverse expertise has been pivotal in creating a solution that is both technologically sophisticated and pedagogically sound.

"We are incredibly honored to be recognized by AIREA," said Cohen-Sasson. "ClassInsight represents our commitment to the responsible and effective use of AI to create tangible benefits in the legal ecosystem and beyond. Our goal is to empower both educators and students, and this nomination validates the hard work and innovative spirit of our team."

The AIREA Competition connects top researchers, educators, and industry leaders from around the world to promote collaboration in AI development and application, with special focus on driving innovation within the education sector. Being shortlisted among finalists from institutions across the United States, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Japan, and other regions places MiLA Lab's work among the most promising AI advancements in education globally.

As the team prepares for this final stage, the lab is offering early access to ClassInsight for interested faculty members who wish to pioneer its use in their classrooms.
