Class action lawsuits have long ignited passionate debate, drawing sharp lines between advocates and critics of this complex legal arena. Today, the landscape is shifting at breakneck speed, driven by sweeping changes in law and the relentless advancement of technology. New challenges and bold opportunities are emerging, transforming how cases unfold and demanding fresh perspectives from legal professionals. Against this dynamic backdrop, the Miami Law Class Action & Complex Litigation Forum returns to the University of Miami School of Law on January 30, 2026, promising a front-row seat to the latest trends, innovations, and pivotal conversations shaping the future of class action and complex litigation.

Former 43rd Solicitor General of the United States Paul Clement, a partner at Clement & Murphy PLLC, who served as acting solicitor general and principal deputy solicitor general from 2005-2008, will give the keynote address.

Now in its 10th year, the forum promises a valuable platform for attorneys seeking insights into contemporary issues related to multi-district class actions and complex litigation. This initiative, co-chaired this year by Harley Tropin, J.D. ’77, founding partner of Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, and Peter Prieto, J.D. ’85, partner at Podhurst Orseck, was originally the brainchild of three leading Miami firms in trial, appellate, and class action law: Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, Podhurst Orseck, Harke Law LLP, and The Moskowitz Law Firm. This year's in-person event brings together influential figures from legal and academic fields to guide and explain the issues surrounding class actions, multi-district, and complex litigation.

“The University of Miami Law School has attracted an amazing group of judges, lawyers, and academics to its 10th Annual Forum,” said Tropin. “Each year, participants have told us how much they have appreciated learning from these people.”

Expert judges, practitioners, and academics from across the United States—leaders in mass torts, insurance, and consumer litigation—will participate in panel discussions throughout the day. Topics will include managing the class action approval process, recent trends in pharmaceutical and medical device cases, the impact of artificial intelligence on the law, and a conversation with South Florida judges on trending issues.

“The agenda for the upcoming forum will once again be substantive, practical, as well as cutting-edge,” said Prieto. “Whether you are a junior lawyer or a senior partner, you will find the discussion and the speakers informative and stimulating.”

The event, held at the University of Miami's Shalala Student Center, 1330 Miller Drive, Coral Gables, Florida, 33146, from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., is open to the public with registration. General admission is $695.00, $195.00 for public service attorneys. Admission fees are waived for judges, law clerks, and current Miami Law faculty and students.
