Centennial Beer on The Bricks celebrates School of Law community

The first event will also recognize a new scholarship and law school legends – faculty who have taught for more than 30 years at the law school.
Centennial Beer on The Bricks celebrates School of Law community

For its centennial year, the University of Miami School of Law is bringing back a beloved tradition with a modern twist. During designated Wednesdays in 2026, the law school will host Beer on The Bricks for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the School of Law.

In the 1970s, a group of study-weary law students persuaded the administration to host regular gatherings in the courtyard. It wasn’t long before faculty, staff, and more students joined in to unwind, dialogue, and get together regularly. The event, first known as Kegs on the Slab, and later Beer on the Bricks, became a symbol of the School of Law’s strong commitment to community.

The 2026 Beer on The Bricks gatherings are part of the law school’s commitment to strengthening connections by bringing the school’s community to campus for conversation and camaraderie. “Our law school has always been about the strong connections we share, and congregating on the Bricks is the perfect way for our legal community to get together. In honoring a favorite tradition of the past, we simultaneously look ahead to our future as we celebrate our 100th anniversary,” says Interim Dean Patricia Sanchez Abril.

The February 11 Event: Honoring Faculty Legends

The first centennial Beer on The Bricks will take place on Wednesday, February 11 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on The Hilarie Bass Bricks with additional gatherings scheduled for April 8, August 19, and November 11. The law school community is encouraged to register and join.

Each Beer on The Bricks will have its own theme and on February 11, the theme will be “Faculty Legends & Legal Luminaries.” The event will feature the announcement of the Terence J. Anderson Endowed Scholarship in Trial and Appellate Advocacy, established through the generosity of Jay A. Martus, J.D. ’85, in honor of Professor Emeritus Anderson’s extraordinary legacy.

The occasion will also honor current law faculty with more than 30 years of service to the University of Miami School of Law: Anthony Alfieri, Bill Blatt, Caroline Bradley, Donna Coker, A. Michael Froomkin, Patrick Gudridge, Stephen Halpert, Frances Hill, Elizabeth Iglesias, Donald Jones, Bill Latham, Lili Levi, Stanley Langbein, Bernard Perlmutter, Martha Mahoney, Thomas Robinson, Robert Rosen, Stephen Schnably, and Irwin Stotzky.

"I am happy to see this community-building tradition revived and thrilled to be a part of this celebration of UM Law’s tradition of excellent legal education and meaningful engagement with communities – global, national, and local,” said Donna Coker, Professor of Law.

One of Many Centennial Events

The Beer on The Bricks is part of the greater law school centennial events taking place throughout 2026. “We’ve put together an incredible lineup of events to celebrate our 100th year. This milestone is all about honoring where we’ve been and getting excited about where we’re headed, and I can't wait to see our entire community come together," said Abril.

Other events include signature lectures and the “Law 100 Tour” visiting cities across the U.S.
