Stellar Celebration for Homecoming and MBA 70th Anniversary

By UM News
Over 500 alumni, relatives, and friends of MBS came together across three days to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the MBA program, the 40th anniversary of the Executive MBA in Health Sector Management and Policy, and the 20th anniversary of the Executive MBA in Spanish (formerly known as MSPM) program. A spectacular lineup of speakers included Stuart Miller, executive chairman of Lennar and UM Trustee, and UM alumna and Trustee Geisha Williams (BSIE ’83), CEO of Pacific Gas & Electric Company. Jason Robins, CEO of DraftKings, presented on Friday and discussed online gaming and the future of fantasy sports.

The celebrations included the official unveiling of four spectacular prints, representing the four seasons, in the Storer Auditorium lobby. These prints, entitled The Four Seasons, by artist Xavier Cortada (AB ’86, JD ’91, MPA ’91), draw on the financial market and temperature data to show how the timing of the seasons is shifting thanks to climate change. The rise of the sea levels is reflected on each print.

The annual homecoming cookout held on Friday afternoon featured delicious food from Shorty’s BBQ. Carlos Padron (BBA ’86, JD ’90), the owner of The Tank Brewing Company, also created two special brews – 1948 and Canes – in honor of the 70th-anniversary celebration, which were served in customized 70th-anniversary glasses at the cookout.

Thank you to Chris Nolte (BBA ’05) and Paul Massard (BBA ’05) for keeping everyone energized during the three-day celebration by donating coffee made by their company, Per’la Specialty Roasters, for our guests to enjoy.
