Below, BCW’s Market Leader Jonathan Stern discusses the company’s success in leading strategic communications counseling along with his relationship with the Miami Business School.

Can you share your background with BCW?

I am the Market Leader for the Miami office and also oversee the Puerto Rico operation. Locally, we work with a variety of clients in the alcohol beverage, automotive, aviation, banking, business- to-business, healthcare, sports, technology and tourism industries. Our work ranges from product introductions, marketing, issue management, corporate reputation, government affairs, crisis communications, social and digital campaigns to media relations activities. We also do a substantial number of trainings in the areas of presentation skills, media training and crisis preparedness.

What is BCW’s relationship with the University of Miami Business School?

Our relationship with MBS is very important as it helps us tap into the pulse of what’s happening from an economic development perspective in Miami, (particularly the U.S. Hispanic market), the State of Florida, and the Latin America region- where we serve our prominent clients. The Miami Business School is a wonderful educational resource. This knowledge helps us become more strategic, creative, and on the cutting edge of our business. We also participate in a number of panel discussions involving global issues and trends as well as attend MBS events that connect us with business leaders from different vertical industries. This access helps us learn about Miami Business School faculty’s thought leadership, especially in the areas of innovation and technology- which we apply to our business.

What is one thing you would like our constituencies to know about BCW?

Successful businesses are built on a foundation of trust. Our advisors are leaders in the strategic communications counseling space and impact business results. We are located in downtown Brickell and have been advising clients in the Latin America, Florida and Miami markets for more than 35 years.

Securing full time positions for our students is a top initiative within MBS. What skillset do you look for in potential candidates?

Creativity, passion, intellectual curiosity, and chemistry are essential for us. We live in an age of disruption with key stakeholders demanding more from the companies they trust and the brands they associate with. Since we are in the communications business, we are looking for specific talent. People that can come up with purposeful ideas that move consumers’ attitudes and behaviors toward a particular company, brand or government. Coming up with creative ideas, working well with others in a team dynamic, and being passionate about what you do are all equally important for our firm.
