Corporate leaders, investment professionals, policymakers and renowned researchers are among the cross-section of panelists headlining the 6th Annual Chief Sustainability Officer Summit & Symposium (CSOSS): “ESG: Coming of Age in a Post-Pandemic World." This marquee networking and educational event is hosted by the University of Miami Patti and Allan Herbert Business School, in partnership with the university’s distinguished Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, one of the world’s leading academic and environmental research institutions.
“Sustainable investing, corporate sustainability and ESG have gained considerable momentum in recent years, especially in the financial markets. But, increasingly, the role of business in promoting economic reform has been met with some healthy skepticism, including here in Florida,” said Daniel Hicks, economics professor at Miami Herbert who founded and organizes the annual event. “CSOSS is therefore a timely forum for thoughtful leaders in ESG and sustainable business to explore from multiple angles the challenges and opportunities that confront modern societies while informing the discourse significantly.”
The conference takes place Friday, March 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 pm Eastern time. Located on the university’s Coral Gables campus, CSOSS is an in-person event, but sessions will also be livestreamed worldwide.
CSOSS panelists are sustainability leaders from prominent business, financial, non-profit and academic organizations, among them: American Century Investments, American Red Cross, Estee Lauder Companies, Jones Lang LaSalle, Moody’s, Raymond James Financial, S&P Global, State Street, and the University of Miami. Panel discussions will address supply chain management in health care; corporate reporting and sustainable finance; management perspectives on corporate sustainability and governance; and the role of business in sustaining the oceans amid climate change.
The more than 20 CSOSS speakers include Donna Shalala, the former U.S. health secretary of health and human services and former president of the University of Miami; Daniel Benetti, renowned researcher and director of marine affairs and policy at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School; and Clyde Prestowitz, president of the Economic Strategy Institute, who will deliver the keynote on U.S. industrial policy, trade, and the Green New Deal.

The conference is part of many University of Miami sustainability initiatives and programs that reduce its environmental impact and promote sustainable practices. The University’s commitment to sustainability and the environment is reflected in its work toward carbon neutrality and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, with a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. Miami Herbert incorporated sustainable business education into all its graduate programs, and launched a Masters in Sustainable Business in 2019. And more than 17 buildings across three campuses are recognized as LEED certified, including Miami Herbert’s building, which recently received LEED Platinum Certification.
Presented by Calamos Investments, CSOSS is designed as an educational and networking event for corporate executives, sustainability professionals, investment managers, government policymakers, community leaders, NGO activists, leading researchers, and university students from across every economic sector and academic discipline.
