Ranking highlights Miami Herbert’s growing research excellence

A recently released compilation of the world’s Top 2% Scientists included seven researchers who teach at the Patti and Allan Herbert Business School at the University of Miami. They are:

Luo, Scandura, Sharma, Parasuraman, French, Kumar, and Schriesheim were singled out on Stanford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list for 2023, a global listing that in addition to scientists, also covers work generated by physicians, engineers, and mathematicians.

“I think it’s an incredible honor for Miami Herbert’s Business School to have so many of our research faculty listed among the world’s top 2 percent scientists,” said Miami Herbert Vice Dean for Faculty and Research Dhananjay Nanda. “I think the last time we did this ranking we had five research faculty, and now we have seven.”

Of those seven, Professor of Management Yadong Luo was ranked 14th out of the 1,068 researchers.

Having a Miami Herbert presence on the 2023 list “enhances our research status among universities,” Nanda said. “Other schools are starting to notice that we are a top research institution, and this helps with our ranking. It also helps when it comes to recruiting junior scholars who want to work with our renowned senior scholars.”

To create its annual Top 2% Scientists rankings, Stanford collaborates with Dutch academic publishing firm Elsevier to create a database that identifies the top 2 percent of global researchers, based on citations. After analyzing the resulting metrics, Stanford released its most recent World’s Top 2% Scientists list this month.

“I think we’ve recruited really top scholars over the last five to six years, and as a result have become much more research-oriented,” Nanda said. “Plus, we have nine different departments, which supports a very broad array of scholarship.”
