Miami Herbert conference explores intersection of sports, sustainable business

Money managers, business leaders, athletes, and sustainability professionals will converge at the University of Miami Patti and Allan Herbert Business School for the 8th Annual Chief Sustainability Officer Summit & Symposium (CSOSS) to share how the sports industry provides clues into the future of sustainable business.

Presented by Calamos Investments and hosted by Miami Herbert’s Department of Economics, CSOSS is the premier sustainable business event in the southeastern United States, attracting senior executives, sustainability professionals, fund managers, and policymakers worldwide.

The event, titled "Sports Business & Social Impact," will take place Friday, April 25, at the University of Miami's Coral Gables campus.

The town hall sessions will tackle key issues at the crossroads of athletics, media, finance, and corporate citizenship, highlighting how diverse sectors collaborate to drive meaningful change. For a complete list of CSOSS speakers and panels, click here.

“CSOSS continues to innovate as well as highlight the role of business in economic reform,” said Daniel Hicks, a member of the economics faculty at Miami Herbert and founder, organizer, and chair of CSOSS. “This year, by highlighting the sports industry’s economic influence, we’re engaging new audiences and showcasing how teams, players, and fans have been investing in positive change for years.”

The conference is part of many University of Miami sustainability initiatives and programs that promote environmental conservation and community inclusion. The University’s commitment is reflected in its work toward carbon neutrality and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, with a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. Miami Herbert has incorporated sustainable business education into all of its graduate and undergraduate programs and launched a Masters in Sustainable Business in 2019. More than 17 buildings across three campuses are recognized as LEED certified, including Miami Herbert’s building, which is LEED Platinum Certified
