Undergraduates seeking hands-on global business experience can apply for one of five Miami Herbert Business School study abroad programs that combine academic credit with immersive learning in Ecuador and across Europe. The programs allow students to explore how global and local companies operate in diverse business environments. The application deadline is Feb. 1, 2026.
Barcelona: Global Human Resources
Participants dive into real-world HR challenges at global and local companies while exploring how culture shapes people management. The experience emphasizes both theoretical frameworks and practical application. Students analyze real-world issues, from AI in the workplace to corporate ethics, then present strategic solutions to business leaders.
Who should attend: “This program is for students who want to learn the people side of business inside real companies, learning directly from leaders while spending time in Barcelona,” says program director Stephen Cerrone, associate professor of professional practice. “If you’re ready for hands-on visits, industry speakers, and a global experience, this program is your next step.”
Ecuador: Luxury Marketing in Emerging Markets
From eco-luxury hotels in the Galápagos Islands to artisan workshops preserving centuries-old traditions, students examine how Ecuador’s luxury sector balances exclusivity with sustainability. Direct engagement with local entrepreneurs, craftspeople, and conservation leaders reveals how emerging markets shape the global luxury industry.
Who should attend: “This program is ideal for undergraduates from all disciplines who are passionate about sustainability and eager to explore how the luxury market intersects with environmental and social responsibility,” says program lead Maria Brito-Rhor, professor of marketing research and market analysis. “Participants will embark on a once-in-a-lifetime academic experience in the Galápagos Islands, a living laboratory of evolution and a UNESCO World Heritage Site that hosts over 2,000 species found nowhere else on Earth. Through guided exploration and expert-led sessions, students will gain a profound understanding of sustainable practices and their relevance to global luxury industries—all while surrounded by one of the most breathtaking ecosystems on the planet.”
Florence: Fashion and Luxury
Students visit prestigious Italian luxury brands and local entrepreneurial firms, analyzing how companies like Gucci, Armani, and Prada have built global recognition. The program combines classroom learning with visits to fashion fairs, design schools, and retail locations throughout Florence and nearby Tuscan cities.
Who should attend: “Italy leads the world with the most fashion brands exceeding 1 billion euros in sales, and Florence is emerging as the fifth fashion capital. This immersive program explores how Italian businesses have built and marketed prestigious global luxury brands. Students will engage with marketing strategies of world-renowned brands, experience artisan workshops firsthand, and explore textile sustainability initiatives. They'll also enrich their creativity through Florence's diverse cultural activities,” says faculty director Trini Callava, professor of marketing.
French Riviera: Organizational Behavior
This immersive program blends academic study with hands-on projects, allowing students to apply organizational behavior concepts in real-world contexts. Through company visits, guest lectures, and collaboration with international peers, participants gain firsthand insight into European business practices and workplace dynamics. Alongside academic engagement, students take part in cultural excursions and activities that deepen their understanding of French life and leadership in an international setting. Who should attend: “This program is open to undergraduates across all disciplines, blending academic learning with cultural immersion,” says program lead Marina McCarthy, associate professor of professional practice. “Students engage in hands-on projects, company visits, and guest lectures while living in the community, giving them a chance to fulfill a core requirement and experience global business in a transformative way.”
Madrid: Strategic Brand Management
Students experience Spain’s capital while exploring how companies build and manage brands as valuable strategic assets. This course emphasizes the strategic role of brands in driving shareholder value, equipping students with the tools and skills to effectively implement brand strategies. The curriculum combines coursework on brand equity and strategy implementation with cultural excursions and exposure to European business practices.
Who should attend: “Branding is one of the most culturally shaped elements of marketing. From a brand’s name and logo to its colors and advertising, branding draws its meaning from the cultural context in which it lives,” says co-instructor Aquiles Estes, world-renowned brand consultant. “We invite undergraduates from all majors to experience a dynamic blend of academic coursework and cultural immersion as they explore these ideas in Madrid. Students learn using real-world brand challenges, meet with industry leaders from across Europe, and visit iconic brands such as Real Madrid, Zara, and Camper—all while living in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. It’s an opportunity to fulfill a core requirement and discover how global brands are first born local but are managed and transformed into global brands over time,” adds faculty director Joseph Johnson, professor of marketing.
To secure a spot in one of these programs, students should apply before the Feb. 1, 2026, deadline. Additional information and application materials are available through the Study Abroad Office or studyabroad@miami.edu.
