Presentations by Drs. Julie Barroso, Victoria Mitrani, Natalia Villegas, Brian McCabe and Joe De Santis included findings, respectively, from: 1) an intervention to reduce stigma in HIV-infected women in the Deep South; 2) a family intervention for mothers in recovery and their children; 3) an internet based STI and HIV prevention intervention for young Chilean women; 4) a comparison of the effectiveness of two alcohol screening tools administered in a university health clinic; and 5) a study looking at the influence of cultural factors on risk behaviors in Hispanic men who have sex with men.
Additionally, in keeping with El Centro’s mission to serve as a resource to investigators regarding health disparities research methodology, Dr. Mitrani gave a keynote address entitled: “Reducing Health Disparities through Culturally Tailored Intervention Science”.
El Centro associated faculty continue the Center’s mission to advance the scientific development of culturally-tailored interventions to improve the health of groups who experience health disparities through research, education and collaboration with community and academic partners.
