Also on Wednesday, May 6, the school held a special ceremony to acknowledge ten Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Careers in Nursing (RWJF NCIN) scholars who will receive their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) degrees on Friday. The RWJF NCIN program supports second-career diversity nursing students – meaning all RWJF NCIN scholars are from a population traditionally underrepresented in the field of nursing and are enrolled in the school’s accelerated degree program. The accelerated baccalaureate program offers the quickest route to the B.S.N. degree for students who have already completed a minimum of a bachelor's in a different field. The RWJF NCIN scholarship program was launched in 2008 to expand enrollment and retention in accelerated degree programs at schools of nursing and to help increase diversity in the nursing workforce.
On Friday, May 8th, one hundred forty-nine SONHS students will receive their graduate and undergraduate degrees at the University of Miami Fall Commencement Ceremony in the Bank United Center of the Coral Gables Campus. Earlier that day, accompanied by their proud loved ones at the school’s traditional awards ceremony, all graduates will be presented with their class pins. “Pinning” the recipients of health care degrees is a time-honored ritual of the profession.
