EL CENTRO Co-host the UM “It’s On Us” Campus Resource Fair

El Centro and the President’s Coalition on Sexual Violence Prevention and Education co-hosted the University of Miami It’s On Us Campus Resource Fair.
The goal of the event was to increase student awareness about resources for the prevention, education and treatment of student sexual assault. Many University of Miami and community based organizations came together to support the cause: El Centro, UM Student Health Center, UM Counseling Center, Coordinated Victims’ Assistance Center, Survivor’s Pathway, University Compliance, MUJER, Roxcy Bolton Rape Treatment Center, UM Police, It’s On Us, Futures Without Violence, Switchboard of Miami, Journey Institute, Women’s Fund of Miami, UM Sexual Assault Response Team, and UM President’s Coalition on Sexual Violence Prevention and Education. The fair was part of the UM Safe Spring Break Week Events which were hosted by PIER21, an alcohol and drug use prevention/education program.

The President’s Coalition on Sexual Violence Prevention and Education is a team that was established in 2014 at University of Miami, and consists of 30 UM faculty and administrators, and approximately 25 students. The goal of the coalition is to maintain a safe and informed campus environment for all by working toward prevention and education of sexual violence within University of Miami.

The coalition was created as part of the It’s On Us Campaign to stop sexual violence. The goals of the national campaign are to recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault, to identify situations in which sexual assault may occur, to intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given, and to create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported. Multiple organizations, businesses, and higher education institutions have joined the It’s On Us Campaign. For more information see the websites below.
