SONHS DNP Accreditation Extended To 2026

The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies’ Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program has been awarded full accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The accreditation is effective for the next 10 years, extending to June 30, 2026. The school’s DNP program was originally accredited by the CCNE in 2011.

As part of the CCNE, the School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS) completed an extensive self-study, followed by an on-site evaluation by a team of CCNE reviewers who visited the SONHS in October of 2015, and issued a report on their findings. Based on these processes, the CCNE Board of Commissioners determined the DNP program met all accreditation criteria with no compliance concerns.

“Accreditation is a ‘gold seal’ that offers assurances – to our students, faculty, university colleagues, community partners, and to the patient populations we serve – that we are graduating nurse leaders who will help keep patients safe and help lead healthcare into the 21st century,” said SONHS Dean Nilda (Nena) Peragallo Montano.

The DNP degree represents the highest level of clinical nursing practice. The transformation of the U.S. healthcare system has placed renewed emphasis on the need for nurse leaders prepared with terminal degrees.

“We hold our nursing education programs up to the highest standards, and the CCNE accreditation recognizes and rewards these efforts,” said Dr. Mary Hooshmand, Associate Dean for DNP Programs and Assistant Professor of Clinical.
