Workshop presentation by Dean Munro helps 33rd annual event get under way
SONHS Sponsors Southern Nursing Research Society Conference

The School of Nursing and Health Studies at the University of Miami is a proud sponsoring host institution of the Southern Nursing Research Society’s 33rd Annual Conference, from February 27 to March 1 in Orlando, Florida. The 2019 event is themed “Imagining the Future through Nursing Research and Innovations.”

SONHS Dean and Professor Cindy L. Munro, PhD, RN, ANP-BC, FAAN, FAANP, FAAAS, served as president of the Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS) board of directors from 2014-2016 and is a long-time SNRS board member. “I can’t overstate the importance of this conference and the positive effect it has on nursing research in the U.S., Caribbean, and Latin America,” she says. “I look forward to it each year.”

Dr. Munro presented a pre-conference workshop Wednesday morning, addressing the topic of “Writing for Publication.” Also representing SONHS at the conference is Associate Professor Joseph De Santis, PhD, ARNP, ACRN, FAAN, director, PhD program. His poster presentation is titled “The influence of adverse childhood experiences on mental health and sexual behaviors of Hispanic MSM.”

SONHS ranks #23 in the nation for National Institutes of Health funding to nursing institutions and #1 in Florida, according to the 2018 ranking table from the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. Research at SONHS targets five pressing areas: disaster preparedness, vulnerable populations, global health, patient safety/outcomes, and family caregiving.
