In a prelude to Healthcare Simulation Week, Associate Dean Dr. Jeffrey Groom attends a special workshop hosted by the Center for Medical Simulation in Boston as part of the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) subcommittee review for utilizing simulation-based assessments as an option to standardized testing for CRNA recertification.

Dr. Groom, NBCRNA Subcommittee Co-Chair, reports the group is doing a deep dive into all the considerations around the use of simulation-based assessments, including the use of immersive manikin simulation as well as various forms of virtual reality-based simulation. If adopted, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists would become one of the first healthcare professionals to adopt this mode of certification assessment in the United States.
