Championing Public Health

During COVID-19 pandemic, National Public Health Week is more relevant than ever.
Championing Public Health

In recognition of the 25th annual National Public Health Week, April 6-12, we honor the American Public Health Association, whose members are among those fighting the spread of COVID-19 around the world. Public health is a critical component of health care, providing data for planning and responding to communicable diseases like the current pandemic, chronic illness, and many social factors affecting health, from gun violence and poverty to housing and education. These practices improve health outcomes in a variety of ways, from evidence-based interventions for vulnerable populations and community awareness campaigns to advancing and disseminating science, and influencing policy discussions and data-based decision-making. Our school is proud to offer a public health bachelor's degree program accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health and to have public health courses integrated within our nursing curriculum. Public health is a key component of our school’s mission to transform lives and health care through education, research, innovation, and service across the hemisphere.
