Nursing Faculty, Alumni Selected as AANP Fellows
The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies (SONHS) is well-represented in the latest American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) Fellows class.

Juan M. González, DNP, APRN, AGACNP-BC, FNP-BC, ENP-C, CEN, CNE, an associate professor of clinical at SONHS, has been selected as a 2022 AANP Fellow.

A leading Hispanic nurse practitioner, Dr. González is an award-winning educator who has impacted hundreds of students since first joining SONHS as a lecturer in 2011. In addition to his commitment to mentoring and supporting underrepresented minorities in nursing, Dr. González is a respected scholar of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and grants. He is also an expert emergency clinician. Beyond his hospital practice, Dr. González has led innovative student-driven health missions from the streets of Miami to the hills of Haiti. These efforts have inspired student NPs at home and abroad to help over 5,000 individuals in desperate need of primary care attention. Dr. González was previously selected as a Duke Johnson and Johnson Nursing Leadership Fellow.

In addition, SONHS proudly recognizes alumni Elaine Dorean Kauschinger, PhD ’09, and Julius Johnson, DNP ’16, on their selection to the 2022 FAANP class.

AANP Fellows are “leaders whose scholarly and forward-thinking contributions have led to meaningful improvements to health care and the nurse practitioner role,” according to the AANP. “The purpose of the AANP Fellows is to impact national and global health by engaging recognized nurse practitioners to lead new initiatives and support the AANP mission.”

The 2022 FAANP Induction Ceremony is scheduled to take place in Orlando, Florida, on June 23, 2022. For more information, visit https://www.aanp.org/news-feed/fellows-of-the-american-association-of-nurse-practitioners-welcome-40-new-fellows.
