A Centennial Welcome

School starts new semester and University’s milestone 100th year with nearly 300 new students and three days of orientation.
A Centennial Welcome

As the University of Miami kicked off its yearlong centennial celebration this January, the School of Nursing and Health Studies welcomed almost 300 new students for Spring 2025 orientation and Cane Kickoff. Jude Dhaiti, executive director, Office of Student Services, and his staff organized the school’s orientation activities, introducing the students to their new school, as well as its resources, faculty, and leadership. The first day of orientation was dedicated to nearly 150 graduate students who are entering the school’s Family Nurse Practitioner and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Master of Science in Nursing programs, Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Post-Master’s Certificate program, and other post-master’s certificate programs this semester. The second day, 112 new accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing students completed their orientation, gaining a practical overview of what the next 12 months before graduation have in store. Orientation week concluded with a session for a few dozen incoming public health and health science undergraduates. Classes for both new and returning students run from January 13 to April 28. “We’re enthusiastic about making the 100th anniversary of the University’s founding spectacular,” said School of Nursing and Health Studies Dean Hudson Santos. “In this momentous year, we’re not just aiming for greatness, we are creating it. Our students will go on to be leaders and innovators in health care and the health sciences.” For more information, visit sonhs.miami.edu.
