University of Miami Has Florida’s No.1 Nurse Anesthesia Program

If you want to become a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), the University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies has the best-ranked nurse anesthesia program in Florida, according to U.S. News & World Report’s “2025 Best Graduate Schools,” released April 8, 2025. The school’s three-year B.S.N.-to-D.N.P. program ranked 33rd best out of 140 accredited nurse anesthesia graduate programs nationwide—a big jump from its No. 71 ranking in 2024.

“Our graduate students are guided in their academic programs by world-class faculty and clinicians who lead this region’s top health care systems,” said School of Nursing and Health Studies Dean Hudson P. Santos Jr.

“Rigorous didactic education, cutting-edge simulation experiences, including the use of virtual reality at our S.H.A.R.E. Simulation Hospital Advancing Research & Education®, challenging clinical experiences, and a strong emphasis on leadership opportunities, peer support, and mentorship distinguish our nurse anesthesia doctoral program as the leading program in the state,” added the director of the nurse anesthesia program Dr. Greta Mitsova-Vladinov, a practicing CRNA with UHealth Department of Anesthesia and an alumna of the school.

The rankings for Best Nursing Schools: Master’s and Doctoral Programs reveal the school also dominates its peer institutions in the D.N.P. (#40) and M.S.N. (#27) degree program categories. Both programs rank No. 1 in South Florida and No. 2 in Florida out of 683 nursing schools surveyed by U.S. News, a global authority in rankings and consumer advice. The school’s M.S.N. ranking bested that of a number of nationally noted universities as well, like Yale in New Haven and Rush in Chicago.

The rankings, which evaluate programs in nursing and various other academic disciplines, are designed for prospective students looking to further their education beyond college. Ranking methodologies vary by discipline and graduate degree level. Each school’s score reflects its average rating on a scale from 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding) based on a survey of academics at peer institutions.

The University of Miami is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The school’s B.S.N., M.S.N., D.N.P., and Post-Master’s certificate programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The B.S.N.-to-D.N.P. Anesthesia program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs.
