That's So Metro: South Miami

One of the easiest ways to get around the City of Miami is hopping on the Metrorail, our above-ground train system (which conveniently stops right in front of the University of Miami)! We have consulted with current ’Canes to ensure you’ll know how to enjoy this 25-mile stretch of The Magic City.
Graphic displays a modified version of the Miami Metrorail system, the "South Miami" stop is highlighted.
This map is modified to show the stops we will be covering in this series – visit here for the full, updated map.

Having just left Dadeland North and South, we move toward South Miami Station, which gives Metro riders access to great options for dining, shopping, entertainment, and more!

Most notable is the Shops at Sunset Place, an open-air outdoor shopping center that offers:

  • An AMC movie theatre, newly renovated to include comfy recliners
  • A Barnes & Noble, where you can pick up your favorite #BookTok reads
  • Tea & Poets, a popular hangout spot and local poetry night joint

Shoppes at Sunset Place by the South Miami metrorail stop.

Now that’s not all – the area around Sunset Place is dense with other shops and restaurants you can explore! We can’t list them all, but here are some you can save for later:

  • Miu’s Tea
  • Amsterdam Falafelshop
  • Dr Smood South Miami Organic Café
  • Akashi Japanese Restaurant
  • Rice Mediterranean Kitchen
  • Spris Artisan Pizza
  • Tacocraft
  • Cracked by Chef Adrianne
  • Whip N’ Dip Ice Cream Shoppe

Finally, this Metro stop is great for groceries! There is a Winn-Dixie, a Whole Foods, and a Publix within a short distance. You can pick up your groceries and hop back on the Metro for one stop to reach University Station on campus.

That’s it for South Miami! We’ll see you at our next stop – Douglas Road Station. All aboard!
