UM College of Arts & Sciences Offers Diverse, Engaging Seminars for Freshmen in Fall of 2014

From pop culture heroes to religions of ancient Rome, to team science, to wildlife conservation, a diverse array of seminars awaits students entering the University of Miami College of Arts & Sciences for the Fall 2014 semester.

The engaging and eclectic first-year seminars are open only to freshman students in the College. Enrollment is capped at about 24 students per seminar, creating an environment conducive to discussion and debate. Seminar faculty are focused on undergraduate education.

Senior Associate Dean Maria Galli Stampino said, “The first-year seminars are a microcosm of the larger liberal arts experience at the UM College of Arts & Sciences and are an excellent way to begin your academic journey at UM.”

She added that the courses will bring students “many exciting opportunities to explore a liberal arts education that teaches (them) how to think critically, make connections across multiple disciplines, and communicate clearly and effectively.”

The seminars are open only to students in their first semester, and spaces are limited.
