Finn was one of ten individuals in Miami to earn this distinction. The award was presented at the Disability Employment Awareness Luncheon on October 17. The event featured a keynote speech by Assistant U.S. Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy Kathleen Martinez.
The Esteemed Employee Award committee selected recipients based on the nominees’ initiative, achievements, impact, reliability and community involvement.
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures nominated Finn, recognizing his excellent supervision, guidance and mentoring of the French teaching assistants and lecturers, “a very demanding, multi-layered and complex job requiring hard work, challenging leadership skills and sincere human qualities that he accomplishes with the highest professional standards.”

Finn said, “There were many worthy nominees and I was honored to be among the few who received the award. I am grateful to my colleagues in the MLL Department for their help and encouragement.”
He received his Ph.D. in romance studies from the University of Miami in 2005.
SCLAD is a community-based organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities gain independence. The award is an initiative of SCLAD’s Vocational Services Program, which works to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The theme for 2014 is: “Expect. Employ. Empower.”
