The 43rd annual conference of the North American Society for Sport History was held at the U, May 22-25, 2015. The College of Arts & Sciences Department of History sponsored and hosted the conference, with all sessions being held at the Donna E. Shalala Student Activities Center. The conference brought together 185 scholars from around the nation and the world.

History Professor Don Spivey served as conference manager and offered comments at a session, “Race and Uneven Playing Fields: African-American Athletes and the Quest to Realize Equal Opportunity in Sport.” The session featured papers by three of the leaders in sport history: Professors Jeffrey Sammons of NYU, David Wiggins of George Mason University, and Mark Dyreson of Pennsylvania State University. Don also served as moderator for a special forum, “Why Black Baseball History Matters,” which featured presentations by one of the deans of Negro League baseball history, Larry Lester, and personal reflections from Robert Leroy Paige, son of the legendary major league baseball player, Leroy “Satchel” Paige.
The conference ended with a sumptuous banquet on Monday evening, May 25, with the installation of the new NASSH President Kevin Wamsley of Western University, Ontario, Canada.
