“One of the goals of the College of Arts & Sciences is to reach out beyond the boundaries of our campus to those who would not otherwise be exposed to the scholarship generated in our intellectual community,” said Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences Leonidas Bachas. “To accomplish this, there is no better way than making our competitive and prestigious liberal arts programs and faculty accessible via online programs.”

UM’s online MPA program is designed to prepare students for a public service career in the public, non-profit, or private sectors. It combines a contemporary curriculum, innovative instruction, and research and service to help students develop and enhance their technical, ethical, and leadership skills.

“We are delighted to be launching our MPA degree program online next spring,” said Jonathan West, chair of the Department of Political Science and MPA program director. “While several universities offer online public administration courses, the University of Miami is one of the few to lead by offering a full graduate degree program for current or aspiring public service professionals.”

He added that the online MPA builds on a foundation of excellence in the 36-year-old, on-campus MPA program. Graduates – who study budgeting, personnel and project management, strategic planning, and more – have an excellent record of placement in local, state, and federal government as well as at companies and non-profit organizations.

Dean Bachas said, “Our online Master of Public Administration offers the flexibility and the quality education our students are seeking through distance learning.”
