It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Dr. Harry P. Schultz, a professor emeritus and former Chair of the Department of Chemistry (from 1972 until his retirement in 1984). Dr. Schultz passed away on December 7, 2020 at the age of 102 at his home in Wyoming.

Dr. Schultz joined the College of Arts and Sciences' Chemistry Department in 1947 as an assistant professor and moved through the ranks to tenured professor of chemistry until he retired in 1984. He continued teaching part time until 1991.

Dr. Schultz was an accomplished scholar who taught generations of students and made the Chemistry Department a center for research and scholarly exploration. To honor Dr. Schultz and his legacy at UM, the College created the Harry Pershing Schultz Fellowship Fund in 2018. Our deepest condolences to his family, former students, and our colleagues in the Chemistry Department.
