It is very sad to report that A&S colleague Emeritus Professor James Nearing passed away. Professor Nearing joined the University of Miami Physics Department in 1965 as an assistant professor and was a valued member of the department until his retirement in 2012. For over 35 years, he served as associate chair and undergraduate advisor in the Physics Department and had a large impact on both the undergraduates and graduate students in the program. He was a very thoughtful educator and colleague and will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Judith Rabkin, a retired member of the UM Libraries faculty. The Physics Department will hold a gathering to celebrate Professor Nearing's life when circumstances permit.
