William Lucas Ward, Jr.
William Lucas Ward, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, in Fort Pierce, Florida. Known as Bill, he earned a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Florida and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a professor of art at the University of Miami College of Arts & Sciences, where he taught from 1960 to 1993. He served as acting chairman of his department and acting director of the Lowe Art Museum from 1969–1970 and became the head of the University’s graduate and undergraduate sculpture programs. At the infamous Woodstock Music and Art Fair in 1969, Bill served as the field art director. Over the course of his life, he exhibited his work in more than 100 painting and sculpture shows. He was also passionate about racing cars.
