Daniel John DiResta

Daniel J. DiResta, known as Dan, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, in Miami, Florida. He earned his Ph.D. in biology at the University of Miami in 1983, and after completing a post-doctoral program at Medical College of Ohio, he returned to the University in 1988. Dan was a member of the Department of Biology at the College of Arts & Sciences for 36 years, serving on several committees and building a legacy as an educator, mentor, and marine science advocate while inspiring generations of students and colleagues. In addition to working at the University, Dan volunteered in Biscayne National Park, where he studied coral reefs and recruited more than 400 undergraduate volunteers to assist him with these invaluable projects. He also played guitar, including in the folk music band that performed for the College’s 1960s history course. He is survived by his wife Ann Addison and his daughter Michele Addison.
