Professor Susan Haack passed away on March 10, 2026. Susan was a Distinguished Professor in the Humanities, a Cooper Senior Scholar in Arts and Sciences, a Professor of Philosophy, and a Professor of Law. She taught at both the College and the School of Law. 

Susan received her Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in 1972 and served as a fellow of New Hall, Cambridge, and as a professor at the University of Warwick before joining the University of Miami in 1990. 

She was a world-famous philosopher whose areas of study included epistemology and the philosophy of science. She was included in Peter J. King’s One Hundred Philosophers: The Life and Work of the World's Greatest Thinkers, and received numerous awards, including the Ulysses Medal, the highest honor given by University College Dublin.

Susan’s family has arranged for a simple service for immediate family only.  Our sincere condolences to her husband Howard Burdick and her family.
