“I come from a family of teachers and educators whose deepest rewards came from influencing young people for the better,” he said. “There is a priceless feeling of accomplishment when you can tell a that light bulb has gone off in a student’s mind that you just can’t get from a corporate job.”

Warrior joined the school in 2018 as a consultant and assumed his full-time role in June of this year. Reporting to Dean Laura Kohn-Wood, he is responsible for the school’s marketing, external communications, public relations, digital footprint, social media, and website, as well as internal communications. He will continue teaching in the School of Communication as a part-time lecturer.

“We have three great departments and a wide range of programs under one umbrella,” Warrior said. “Our faculty are star teachers and researchers, and we offer top-notch experiential learning as well. When you combine those strengths with our strategic location in Miami, we have a compelling story to communicate to the world.”

Warrior grew up in a single-parent household in Atlanta, where his mother, Melba Blalock, taught high school. He came to the University of Miami on a Singer Scholarship, earning a bachelor’s degree in international finance and marketing, and an MBA in marketing from the Miami Business School.

Through the years, he has been an active volunteer with Kappa Alpha Psi. Through the Kappa League program, they help African-American high school students develop their academic skills and personal strengths. “We strive to motivate these young men to go to college, learn a trade or serve in the military,” he said. “These are all great ways to develop a sense of accomplishment and meaning in their lives.”

Prior to entering the academic field, Warrior was a marketing executive and consultant for several startups, turnarounds, high-growth, and Fortune 500 companies, including Motorola, Cox Enterprises, the College Football Hall of Fame, Cricket Wireless, and his own company, Vintage Entertainment and Consulting.

“I thought about being a professor later in my career so that I could give back to my alma mater,” Warrior said. So, he accepted an invitation to join the School of Communications in 2017 as a full-time lecturer in the Journalism and Media Management Department. In that role he taught courses on the business side of media, and helped students make good decisions about their future careers.

“Now, I have the best of both worlds,” Warrior said. “I can still be a teacher in the classroom, while extending the impact of our School of Education and Human Development throughout South Florida and around the world.”
