Students in Dr. Deroo's Spring 2020 class TAL 404: Content Area Literacy in the Secondary Classroom will participate in the project with the goal of integrating the Lowe Art Museum's resources into the local community and supporting students’ learning across contexts.

Specifically, students will engage in research about works of art from the permanent collection at the Lowe and then share this art with local school children by creating lessons plans to share about the art and artists in their field placements at Miami-Dade County public middle and high schools. The creation and generation of lesson plans shared in local schools will also be made publicly available through a dedicated page on the Lowe Art museum’s website.

Ultimately, Dr. Deroo's Learning with the Lowe project provides students with important professional skills and expertise as they prepare to be teachers. Students will grow in their skills as academic researchers and curriculum designers and will gain important insights about using community resources, such as museums, in support of school-based learning.
